How to Get a Marital Home Sold
In a Divorce

In this presentation, we will present the process of getting a court order for the sale of property within a divorce, even a partially contested one. We will invite both LDA’s and realtors to join us and participate in the question and answer portion.

With the COVID 19 crisis showing no signs of letting up, the economic fallout is likely baked in for the next few years. As with most economic events, that fallout will have ramifications of personal lives of the public, divorce being no exception. The current crop of divorce filings will include couples who will not just be moving on from their marriage, but also moving on from the state of California altogether, with many couples both moving elsewhere. This creates an odd situation where couples will be in agreement over the sale of their most valuable asset, their marital home, but not necessarily agree on other aspects, such as the way the equity they get from the sale will be split. Complicating this further will be the reality that many of these couples will be cash-poor but equity-rich, thus often unable to afford full-service attorneys on both sides. This presents an opportunity for Legal Document Assistants and Limited Scope Attorneys alike, and also creates a natural alliance with Realtors who will be working towards selling these homes in the midst of the process.  This presentation is about the managing of the process.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Legal document assistants that provide services in contested divorce, realtors who seek listing agreements from married couples who are divorcing, legal document assistants who provide estate planning assistance that involve the transfer of property, and anyone else who read the above statement and believes it’s worth an hour of their time.

Presented by
Christopher Stefan, Esq.

Christopher Stefan has been a member of the California bar since October 2008. He attended law school at American University’s Washington College of Law in Washington D.C.. During law school, Mr. Stefan received the highest grade in his class for both family law and oil and gas law. Shortly after graduation, Mr. Stefan began working for a national consumer protection law firm. While there, Mr. Stefan literally helped thousands of consumers facing litigation from credit card companies. In 2011, Mr. Stefan opened up a solo practice in Los Angeles, where he began assisting clients with family law matters, unlawful detainers, criminal defense, and general civil litigation. As a general practitioner, Mr. Stefan assisted people in a wide variety of capacities, including providing attorney of record services for several complex entertainment litigation and real estate matters. While those cases were ongoing, Mr. Stefan also continued assisting consumers by providing limited scope services, primarily in family law matters. In 2014, Mr. Stefan re-organized his operation into the Limited Scope Law Group, where he began to focus primarily on assisting people in limited scope (self-represented before the court). Over half of the clients he serves are family law matters, including divorce, child custody, and domestic violence restraining order cases. Other matters include unlawful detainers, credit card/debt litigation defense, simple criminal defense, civil litigation and the occasional bankruptcy matter. Mr. Stefan prides himself on being able to assist clients who primarily represent themselves in pro per, and Mr. Stefan has prepared a series of informational video’s on his website designed to educate in pro per litigants.
